Thank you for your interest in the Transsex Advocacy Network! This organization exists to spread awareness, advocate, and support people who are suffering from transsexualism. We have four main goals:
- Spread awareness that our condition is a medical issue, not a social identity
- Advocate for fair treatment in medical, scientific, political, and media institutions
- Define the distinction between gender nonconformity and transsexualism
- Uplift the voices and lives of those suffering with transsexualism
Our organization is concerned only with transsex people and issues. We hold no definitive positions as a whole outside of the following:
- Transsexualism is a medical condition which can only be treated by medical transition
- Medical transition alters the sex of the patient
- The defining feature of transsexualism is an innate understanding of oneself as being of the opposite sex than that indicated by their genitalia at birth, causing suffering
- People who are gender nonconforming, cross dressers, want to change only some or all secondary sex characteristics, only want to be perceived as the opposite sex without medical transition, or believe they do not belong to their sex only because of the way they think or act do not have transsexualism
Transsexualism and the experiences of its sufferers are distinct from gender nonconformity. This condition is present at birth and is not tied to a specific place, time, or any characteristic. The people suffering with it come from diverse backgrounds and perspectives, but we all share the same pain. We desire a world where we are able to access medical care and be treated fairly before the law and the public. Our organization has no ill will toward those who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, or gender nonconforming; we only want our voices to be heard from ourselves, not anyone else.
